Praia Group Methodological Instruments Endorsed at the 57th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission

The Praia Group on Governance Statistics presents the four methodological instruments endorsed at the 57th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission. These instruments represent a major milestone in the consolidation and advancement of internationally comparable governance statistics and reflect several years of collaborative methodological development undertaken with the support of members, partners, and the broader statistical community. The endorsed instruments cover two key governance domains as defined within the Praia Group framework and aligned with the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA 2.0): • Non-Discrimination and Equality, • Participation in Political and Public Affairs. The four endorsed methodological instruments are the following: 1. Using administrative data to measure non-discrimination and equality, 2. Guidance on utilizing electoral administrative data to produce statistics on political participation, 3. Praia Group Survey on Discrimination, 4. Praia Group Survey on Participation in Political and Public Affairs. These instruments provide methodological guidance and standardized approaches to support the production of high-quality governance statistics, strengthening the capacity of national statistical systems and promoting international comparability. The endorsement of these instruments also marks the beginning of the Praia Group’s third mandate (2026–2031), during which the Group will continue consolidating existing methodological work while identifying new priority areas for future development. The Praia Group expresses its sincere appreciation to all members, partners, and contributing institutions for their continued engagement and support throughout this process. “TO CONSULT THE 4 INSTRUMENTS, PLEASE ACCESS THE ‘DOCUMENTS AND RESOURCES’ TAB ON OUR WEBSITE AND VIEW THEM UNDER THE ‘OTHER DOCUMENTS’ CATEGORY.”
