Training of Field Agents for the Pilot Test on Participation in Political and Public Affairs

The Secretariat of the Praia Group on Governance Statistics is organising technical training for 10 field agents as part of the pilot test on participation in political and public affairs. The training will take place from 22 to 25 January 2025 and its main objective is to train the agents in the rigorous and standardized data collection during the field phase. The data collection phase will begin on 27 January and will cover 480 households in five municipalities on the island of Santiago: Praia, Santa Cruz, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and Santa Catarina. The fieldwork is scheduled to last two weeks and will end on 7 February. The pilot test aims to assess the validity and functionality of a questionnaire developed to measure the dimension of participation in political and public affairs, one of the eight dimensions identified in the Praia Group Governance Statistics Manual (2020). This technical effort is part of the global strategy to develop methodologies and guidelines that promote international harmonization of governance statistics, ensuring their relevance and comparability across countries. The implementation of this pilot project is financially supported by the United Nations Joint Office in Cape Verde and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, confirming the importance of strategic partnerships in strengthening the production of governance statistics. The Praia Group thus reaffirms its commitment to consolidating the development of governance statistics as an essential tool for formulating public policies based on evidence and in line with global standards.
