Praia Group Survey Module and Guidance on Using Eletoral Data for Statistics on Participation in Political and Public Affairs Webinar
Over the past months seven national statistical offices – Burundi, Cabo Verde, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, Nigeria and Uganda – have piloted the questionnaire in diverse cultural and linguistic contexts. During the session, we heard directly from the statisticians who led these field-tests and learn about their experiences on the ground.
On 13 May 2025 we had the webinar of the Political Participation Task Team to explore insights gained from the field-testing of the survey module developed by this Task Team, and to discuss the Administrative Electoral Data Guidance also being developed by this Task Team. We considered • What did the field-tests reveal about the methodological soundness and applicability of the questionnaire across diverse contexts? • How did respondents engage with the topics of participation in election and in political and civic life more broadly, as well as on the ‘enabling environment’ for participation ? • What refinements may be necessary moving forward? We also presented ongoing work on the Electoral Data Guidance which aims to guide NSOs on strengthening collaboration with Electoral Management Bodies to publish more and better official statistics on electoral participation and representation in political office. Please find below: A detailed report on key results and findings from the pilot-testing of the Participation questionnaire by seven NSOs (Burundi, Cabo Verde, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, Nigeria and Uganda) and the slides displayed during the webinar.
